INITIATIVES

Education

Qualified coaches, referees and table officials are in short supply throughout the UK, but particularly in the South West. Its in our interests as much as our responsibility to the sport of basketball to educate as many players as possible and give them the opportunities to gain qualifications in all three of them. We need as many coaches as we can get to enable us to grow the development programme to where we want it to be, and in turn, that will put pressure on the already limited number of referees in the area. If we can help boost the number of qualified referees and table officials, then the future of basketball in the area will be a lot more secure.

Tournaments

We want to be in a position where we're sending each of our teams to international tournaments across Europe every other year. But at the same time, we'd like to hold our own tournaments, inviting teams from across Britain and possibly Europe as well.

We're looking at hosting a couple of different types of tournaments. First of all, the normal round robin type tournament, playing full length games and ending up with semi finals and a final. We are also looking into running other types of tournaments.

Administration and Work Experience

The more work experience that a student can get and add to their C.V. the better. When it comes to applying for jobs or getting into university, work experience counts for a lot. In order to give our players work experience, we will try and involve as many of them as are interested, in administration and game day management. We also want a player from each team getting involved in management meetings, giving us the views of the players and telling us what they would like to see us put into operation in the future.
